Many parents worry about the impact of screens on their child’s development. Have a read of this! According to The World Health Organisation, babies should not be left to passively watch screens. Children between ages 2 and 4 should have a maximum of an hour a day.

Supporting a child who may be dealing with grief

The death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth provides us with an opportunity to think about how we talk to children about grief.
Many adults feel the need to ‘soften’ the news by saying “They’ve gone to live with the angels” or “They will be watching over us.”
Experience has shown me that children are way more resilient than we think, and just need death to be explained to them honestly and in language they can understand. They need to ask questions and they need to be allowed to grieve, in the same way as adults do. Attempts to soften the news for them can be very confusing and unhelpful. Have a read of this article from Child Bereavement UK.
Queen Elizabeth taught all of us so much but gave us the perfect opportunity to talk to our children about loyalty, dignity, privacy and fulfilling promises. Surely teaching our children about these things is one of the most powerful things we can do to honour the life of Queen Elizabeth?
Please let me know if you would like support for your child who may be grieving for a special person. Call me for a free ten minute chat! 07746756871 or email me at enquiries@thechildsperspective.co.uk

Getting your child back into a routine for school

Are you a parent faced with the challenges of trying to get your child back into a routine, ready for school?
I would suggest drawing out or writing a ‘morning map’ with your child, to remind them what to do at each step of the getting ready process. This will avoid you having to keep telling them what to do, each day.
Have a read of the article from BBC Bitesize.

Getting Children Moving Again

Getting Children moving again….
Evidence suggests that many of our children are getting even less opportunities for physical activity than before the pandemic.
According to this article by Max Stanford, “A myriad of evidence shows that physical activity in early childhood is critical to bodily growth and physical development. Taking part in physical activity can help to improve body control and strengthen bones and muscles.
Physical activity also has cognitive, social and other developmental benefits, with more physical activity associated with improved learning in language and maths, for example, and improved attention and concentration. There is also evidence suggesting physical activity enhances children’s socialisation, for example, making and maintaining friendships or interacting with peers, as well as improving behavioural problems.”
Worried about your child, especially as you spend more time with them over the holidays? This tends to be the time when our child’s difficulties become more apparent to us, as parents.
Call me for a chat. I can’t wait to hear all about your child!
